Danny Demuth

Danny Demuth talks abit about the piece he will exhibit in the show:
_______
"My entries to the ‘We Done Art’ exhibition are all perched comfortably on the platform of Graphic Design and exist collectively as an array of messages, remarks, observations and occasionally, solitary words or characters. Through a vast and varied ethic, each piece achieves a sense of personal authorship. In creating hand made and seemingly unconventional typefaces I have bestowed pragmatic, rather than passive viewpoints upon my audiences. In a contemporary social climate, it is impossible to not communicate, this is non negotiable and resistance is futile."

Bethany Webb

Bethany Webb talks abit about the piece she will exhibit in the show:
_______
"The pieces of work I am putting forth in the exhibition focuses mainly on areas around film and music. Although I am putting forward these particular paintings I have realised that it isn't neccessary that my work has a particular theme running through, but infact trying to make an excuse just to use paint. My first piece is a 5 painting piece originally from an installation I did focusing on film stills from films I have enjoyed watching as well as showing an ecclectic genre of films. The paintings are to be shown one still above the other to give the notion of a film reel, but set out in a simplistic manner. My second piece of my work is a painting from my 'people and spaces' project which shows two guitarists from a band. I have decided to put this forward to display as I am pleased with the outcome of the figures, and features of the guitarists and therefore is has to be one of my favourite paintings I have made."

George Dunsford

George Dunsford talks abit about the piece he will exhibit in the show:
_______
"The work that I have chosen to display in the show is a series of twelve acrylic paintings that are in a comic book style and are based on the series that feature in the television show ‘Heroes’. The basic concept behind them was that I wanted to make art based on something I like, so I chose my favourite TV programme and from there brainstormed what I could make. The whole idea of someone being able to predict people’s death by painting them really interested me. I looked into the drawing by James Cook, which showed his own death that actually came true. So now that I had the idea I went onto choosing a group of people that I could predict their deaths. I chose my art class and explained to them what I intended on doing. Then using a system whereby I wrote down different types of deaths and numbered them randomly, then got each person to chose a number, I paint what they had chosen. So that the series wasn’t of really similar deaths I made them all very different from being poisoned to freezing to death."

Helen Skinner

Helen Skinner talks abit about the piece she will exhibit in the show:
_______
"The work I’m displaying within this exhibition centers around the notion of escapism and different worlds. I'm using the narrative form of both literature and photography to display the worlds in which we can be sucked into or observe mentally whilst displaying them physically. Literature sucks you into a different world. One where anything is possible. I wanted to physically display this ‘world’ and so have installed a book onto the wall in which the text of the pages physically come to life -flowers are growing from the spine of the book. You are forced to read the text to understand the relevance of the flowers. Mirroring this I have photographs of bubbles. They can be perceived to be small, unique worlds of there own. They reflect that of what is around them and so encompass there own little world of reflections- each being different to another. The physical representation is displayed through a bubble gun being pumped at different intervals creating individual and unique bubbles reflecting there surrounding for the observer to encounter, just as they encounter the flowers growing out of the book. Therefore creating physical representations of two very different forms of what can be considered ‘worlds.’"

Gemma Andrews

Gemma Andrews talks abit about the piece she will exhibit in the show:
_______
"Inspired by Erin Petson, an illustator who uses mixed media and montage to create powerful fashion illustrations, i began to create various fashion images using pecil drawings on to paper, adding detial and colour using paints glue, pens, tape etc. In my work i wanted to use a number of materials, which i would then layer up, and college together, to make finals fashion illustration images. I wanted to add a personal element to my work, therfore began to use images of friends and relatives to produce textile pieces. I followed this by creating hand drawn images of my family and friends, onto different material, such as tracing paper, assetate, tissue paper, materials that were transparent, as i wanted each drawing to show through on the final image. After producing the final layer pieces, i decieded to present them in photo frames and photo albums, as this is were familiy photographs are usually found."

Laura Lloyd

Laura Lloyd talks abit about the piece she will exhibit in the show:
_______
"This piece demonstrates notions of familiarisation, recognition and understanding of a given language. In this case the language has been constructed entirely by myself and therefore cannot be translated or comprehended by any other individual. It explores the importance of being able to understand and how this ultimately affects the sense of ‘understanding’ gained. Its ‘scratched in’ qualities on the sheet of Perspex almost give it a sacred feel, resembling that of an ancient language. Its presence is powerful in that it cannot be ‘read’ and therefore stands a piece of sculptural installation."

Bobbie Connolly

Bobbie Connolly talks abit about the piece she will exhibit in the show:
_____
Inertia; Disinclination to move; lifelessness
"Inertia is a sculptural installation that showcases the relationship between two interlinked objects or beings and plays with the idea of the roles they each play in the others existence. It also creates an ideology of death and how it effects this existence. Inertia also relies on the physical aspects of the sculpture to project a notion of lifelessness.

George Jones

George Jones talks abit about the piece he will exhibit in the show:
_______

"My instillation's focus is upon the leather sofa, which has been covered with bizzare and quite explicit text. This sofa was vandalised during a party I had at my house at new years eve of last year, and was completley unaware of people writing on it until the next morning. The action to do such a thing however is due to the influence of alcohol, and the nature of the party in my eyes. This sofa is representative of modern teenage culture, and how harmful substances and the adrenaline rush of a night out can make you do odd things, like this. So i have decided to install this sofa, accompanied with an ipod, some imagrey and dark lighting, to represent what i consider the life of 18 year old. As well as this I intend to display used alcohol bottles, and maybe even a condom, to create a virtual world where whoever sits in the chair is enticed within youth culture. The ipod idea echoes how music serves as an influence to teenage life (i.e punks, anarchy) and by physically engaging in my piece within a small dark cupboard it captures the sensation of the modern teen lifestyle, no matter what age you are. Joe Smith

Joe Smith talks abit about the piece he will exhibit in the show:
____

"The piece started off as a product of an investigation ie carried out into forgery in Art and Artefacts . Where I
was interested in how an object can hold significant meaning and value simply with some sort of back story. In museums objects hold meanings and status due to it's historical relevance , in Art an artist would make a piece to present a certain issue or to carry a certain meaning. So I started to cast an object creating multiples. I choose to cast a little Buddha figurine, I could of cast anything but i choose a Buddha as it already holds religous value. I created 50 in the attempt to raise questions like if you were to cast an object a million times over does it hold the same meaning/value as it's original or does the meaning change. By creating 50 of these Buddhas and exhibiting them all together and to place them in the context of an Art Gallery they as a collective then were made more than they originally were. For me the piece holds different subject matters, things that are not so obvious on the surface. As i also think this piece can be seen in the sense of personal identity, they are all the same object yet due to the technique and process of a cast they are not all exactly the same. They each hold individual qaulities others may not, chips in the plaster, air bubbles at random places."

John O'Grady & Joey Nguyen

John O'Grady & Joey Nguyen talk bout their collaborative work that they will exhibit in the show:
_____
"The piece is as much about the process as the final product, an Art of body painting through unorthodox means, exploring the ways of creative style and social function. The idea originated from the competetive nature between the two, urging for a standard boxing match, under professional guidelines and rules. With the painting twist however, face shots were excluded for safety (humpth.)" -John O' Grady

"This fight has been long in the making, knowing each other for a solid seven years or so, this is what is has leaded to, a bout with the addition of paint. I see it as an interesting way to end the years at Welling in an artistic, explosive fashion with two Art-consumed students. Keeping the project simple, the addition of paint to the gloves gave a great effect to the piece, each hit landing with a visual mark and resulting in our bodies completely covered. Personally, this boxing match shared many characteristics associated with my studies of Art & Design over the past few years: bruised, battered, and messy, yet a sense of achievement, pride, and a whole lot of paint. It might not cater to everyone’s taste, but I’m sure everyone tends to feel the need to ‘let go’, a need of release therapy – this is just one method I recommend if the going gets tough!" -Joey Nguyen

Sipui Tuong

Sipui Tuong talks about the piece she will exhibit in the show:
_____

"For the exhibition, i decided to put in my Memo Notes piece because i liked how it could make the spectator feel intimidated and creating such a large piece of work isn't something i'd typically do.
Inspired by Joseph Grigely, i used small pieces of memo notes and put them together to create a huge piece of work.
I wrote the notes about a year ago for the previous project and i think it's quite nice to re-read them and reflect on my 2 years in art.
They were notes that i wrote everyday about things on my mind, things i heard and conversations i had with people. Plus, they were things i wouldn't normally say outloud so they also acted like a diary which made the piece personal; allowing spectators to step inside my world and catch a glimpse of who i am. Also, because they aren't very specific, spectators aren't really sure who or what i'm on about. "

Here are the Notes stacked. Images of Notes in gallery coming soon.

Emma Gower

Emma Gower talks about the piece she will exhibit in the show:
_____
"
This piece I’ve chosen for the exhibition is focussed on lights, sound, movement that you experience at a fun fair. I choose to associate type with thoughts, feelings and emotions at fairs and spell them out on wood with nails, then light them up by wrapping neon glow sticks around them. When entering a room/shed full of neon, loud music and the smell of candyfloss, I wanted the viewer to gain a sense of visual excitement and motion that you would expect at a fun fair, I love the fact that walking into a room full of neon lettering in a closed area can be quite intimidating."
